Many users tend to avoid email clients, due to their complicated interfaces. It can take some time just to associate them with an email account, especially if you don't know the correct IMAP and SMTP settings. Based on Mozilla Thunderbird, Eudora OSE is designed to make email management a simple and comfortable task. It includes everything you would expect from any mail client, it works fast and it is very easy to use.

The "OSE" acronym from Eudora's name stands for "Open Source Edition." There is no need to buy a license, so you can use the software, free of charge, for as long as you want. It is possible to use Eudora as an extension, on top of Mozilla Thunderbird, but it provides more advantages if you install it as a stand alone application.

The first thing that should be mentioned is the fact that Eudora makes it very easy to set up new email accounts. It will prompt you to add a new account when you launch it for the first time and you can add more accounts, by selecting an option, on the program's Home page. To add a new account, you just need to type in your name, your email address and password, in separate input fields. When you are done typing, you may click a button and the software will automatically detect the mail server's incoming and outgoing addresses and ports.

You may create multiple tabs on Eudora's interface, to view different folders from your mailbox. Emails and their contents can be viewed on the same page and you can select one or more messages and use various options to mark them as read, unread, junk, not junk and so on. It is also possible to filter messages by subject, form or recipient. You can use these filters individually or apply all of them at once.

When it comes to composing messages, the software makes everything much easier. Recipients are filled in automatically, if they exist in your address book, files or web sites can be attached faster and you may quote received messages with a single click, regardless if they are in plain text or HTML format. The software allows you to organize your contacts on different lists, on a separate window and it allows you to associate a broad range of information with individual persons. Additionally, you can import saved address books, emails, settings or filters from other mail clients.

Pros

Eudora OSE provides the same functionality as other mail clients and it comes with its own unique features as well. The software makes it very easy to set up one or more email accounts and to manage emails or contacts. On top of that, the program is free and open source and you can install it in a few seconds.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to mention. With its modern interface and flexible functionality, Eudora OSE is an excellent substitute for any mail client.
